Margaret Hudson Program - Outreach Department

Second Step

For years, the Margaret Hudson Program has served the community as a reliable resource for pregnant and parenting teens and their families. In our efforts to continue to provide our youth with life skills and tools for self-sufficiency, we have expanded our Outreach Department. The Second Step Program is an OJJDP model program and funded through a grant awarded by the Oklahoma State Office of Juvenile Affairs. It is a violence prevention curriculum that focuses on at-risk adolescent boys and girls ages 10-14. This free program will support change in the lives of students by teaching them specific skills that are related to: increasing pro-social behavior, dealing with anger management, problem solving and impulse control.

The curriculum is taught over a 10 week session and lasts approximately 40-50 minutes. It can be taught in a classroom or in a small group setting. A certified Prevention Health Educator will come to your site and administer the curriculum. The program is flexible and the sessions can be designed according to your schedule and needs. The Second Step curriculum is ideal for children in the 4th through the 8th grade.

Outreach Case Manager

Under a grant from the Pediatric Healthcare Fund of Tulsa Community Foundation, the Outreach Case Manager makes hospital visits and home visits to Margaret Hudson students immediately following their child’s birth. One-on-one education covering nutrition, breastfeeding and family planning options is provided to these students. The case manager also acts as a liaison between students and classroom teachers to encourage a successful transition from maternity leave back to the Margaret Hudson Program. These visits ensure that student’s healthcare needs continue to be met and that they are linked to appropriate community resources.
